Valorant Mobile announced, to tap into

This story about adapting PC games to phones, boiled down, in 1:49 minutes.

What's the fuss?

Since its release one year ago, the competitive first person shooter Valorant has taken the PC gaming world by storm. Thus, it will be important for the developer to recapture the game's competitive essence when it gets adapted to mobile phones some time in the future.

The situation

Even if you aren't invested in the gaming scene at all, you very weel may still have heard of Valorant.

With the game having fundamentally established itself in the first-person shooter market, Riot Games (the developer/publisher of Valorant) seems to have turned its attention to the mobile gaming market once again given the announcement of Valorant mobile

Boiling it down

PC gaming enthusiasts regularly write off mobile gaming as only just for casual gamers, but this isn't entirely true.

  • The mobile esports scene is just as globally recognized, with titles that originally derived from PC games such as PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile among the leaders in viewership.
  • Among the catalysts for such fandom is accessibility - since gamers only require a phone and not an expensive computer rig, they have an easier time connecting with the game and its surrounding community.
  • Although Valorant doesn't require a beefed up computer to play it, a phone version of the game will likely attract more players within the Riot ecosystem.

Transitioning PC titles to phones isn't just a simple copy-and-paste.

  • Numerous key facets of the game such as controls and game flow must be adapted for the mobile gamer, generally focusing on faster gameplay and quicker matches.
  • Given this isn't Riot's only foray in transitioning their PC titles to phones, having done this with their franchises League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, Riot seems well-equipped for the task at hand.
