No one wants Grand Theft Auto 5 again

No one wants Grand Theft Auto 5 again

This story about being tired of the same thing, boiled down, in 1:36 minutes.

What's the fuss?

8 years since its initial release, Grand Theft Auto 5 will be released and remastered once again on the newest generation of consoles - but we don't really want it.

What's the fuss?

Spanning 7 mainline games and 9 spin off titles, the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series is the 6th best selling video game franchise of all time.

  • The franchise is beloved for its immersive, realistic world that allows the player to do almost anything, but is also steeped in controversy for its adult nature.
  • Historically, we have gotten a new GTA title approximately every 3 years, but we've been waiting almost 8 years for Grand Theft Auto 6.

At PlayStation's recent showcase, fans were hoping to see a formal announcement of the next instalment in the GTA franchise.

  • Instead, we only got gameplay of a remastered GTA 5 running on the PlayStation 5, something that was announced last year.
  • Fans were severely disappointed, evidenced by the like-to-dislike ratio on the official gameplay video.

Boiling it down

To this day, Grand Theft Auto 5 makes an insane amount of money, with the developer likely wanting to milk their cash cow for as long as possible before introducing a new entry that would cannibalize sales.

Grand Theft Auto 5 originally launched on the PlayStation 3.

  • Fans are tired of literally being offered the exact same game over and over.
  • Although GTA 5 periodically gets new updates via its online component, gamers seem to have had enough of the relatively-same old.
